Network Instruments and Cisco Systems Sign Agreement To Co-Develop Wireless Network Analysis Tools

Minneapolis, MN - January 22nd, 2002 - Network Instruments, a market leader in high-value, high-performance protocol analyzers and device mapping software, announced that it has entered into an agreement with Internet networking pioneer Cisco Systems to co-develop wireless network analysis tools for WLAN (wireless local-area network) management, based on the IEEE 802.11b protocol standard for wireless communications.

"Cisco is at the forefront of network technology, and we're proud to be joining them in pursuit of the next innovation wave-wireless network analysis, expert problem identification, statistics and long-term trending" said Douglas Smith, President, Network Instruments.

The Network Instruments/Cisco Systems agreement pairs 802.11b wireless protocol decoding with Network Instruments Observer 8 network analysis software, a Windows-based real-time network monitoring and troubleshooting tool. The co-developed product will allow network managers to design wireless infrastructures, to identify security risks and other potential network problems, to analyze higher-level protocols, and to manage wireless traffic.
