Network Instruments’ Observer® Offers SOAP Support

Enterprise Customers Can Use SOAP to Access Observer’s Network Trending Data Collection Facility.

Network Instruments, LLC has announced the availability of SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) support for its Observer 8 line of protocol analysis and monitoring products for LANs and WANs. The Observer product family now provides access to error, capacity and historical network trending data to any application that supports XML or SOAP.

SOAP specifies a platform-independent mechanism for distributed applications to exchange information in XML format, usually over a TCP/IP network connection. SOAP is the emerging industry standard for sharing data between applications.

"Enterprises have an essential need for an industry-standard method to access Observer’s rich source of network flow statistics from other applications." said Douglas Smith, President of Network Instruments. "With SOAP support built into the product, Observer now plays a dual role. Observer has always been used to monitor, troubleshoot and diagnose network problems in real time, and now it can simultaneously act as a historical data mine for any other application that may need network flow and capacity information.”

Observer’s SOAP functionality includes internal support for third-party application SOAP access, a complete set of utilities to request data and populate Microsoft Access databases, and development templates which enable administrators to write SOAP access utilities.

SOAP support is available for the Observer Suite, Gigabit Observer Suite System and WAN Observer Suite System. For ordering and upgrade information, please contact Network Instruments or your local dealer.
