Network Instruments' optical TAPs are designed as a passive
splitter of any Gigabit SX/LX optical signal. Once split, one signal
is returned to the network, the other is sent to the Observer analyzer.
The analyzer can then be connected and disconnected without any
interruption of the gigabit network.

Single Channel Tap Rack 19" Mount Pannel
(rack mounts up to 3 TOP1Xs) |
TAPs are available with options for 1, 2, 4 and 6 channels. Each
channel provides three ports - an in (DTE), out (DCE) and analyzer
device connections. The "in" connection comes from the device or
network under test, the "out" goes back out to the device's target
hub, switch or router. The Observer analyzer connects to the "analyzer"
port. TAPs split the gigabit signal "50/50" - 50% of the signal
is returned to the network, and 50% is sent to the analyzer. All
TAPs have a guaranteed attenuation of less than 4.4dB, and average
under 4dB.
Single Channel TAP - Offers 1 in (DTE), 1 out (DCE) and
1 Analyzer port.
